At its September 18, 2023 meeting, Council approved a series of governance changes to support succession planning, establish a nominations/governance committee, clarify terms, separate board and committee roles, change the timing of governance processes to enable the new board and committees to begin in the new year, eliminate committee chair/vice-chair elections and modernize language.

These changes will modernize CMTO’s governance practices to align with best practices and further support CMTO’s ability to make decisions in the public interest.

Change in Date for District Elections

The upcoming District Elections, initially scheduled for January 11, 2024, will now be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

This change to the District Election date will allow the Board to approve the committee slate at the last Board meeting of the year so that the new Board and committees can begin their work on January 1^st. Future elections will be held earlier on a date set by the Registrar.

November 2023 District Elections:

Elections will be held in Districts 2, 5, and 7; and a By-Election will be held in District 4.

Registrants working in an educational setting may be eligible for the Academic District Council elections.  As part of your renewal, please confirm if you have maintained or provided at least 12 student contact hours per week, through classroom teaching, academic advising, and/or curriculum development, in a Massage Therapy school or program, recognized in Ontario, during each of the previous three years.

For the upcoming District Elections, please take a moment to verify and update your practice location address and home address, where applicable, by 12 noon on Friday, October 20, 2023, so that you are eligible to vote in the correct district.
