Measles Cases Rising in Ontario
Public Health Ontario has issued an alert about multiple measles outbreaks across the province. Measles is a highly contagious respiratory infection. It spreads by coughing or sneezing into the air and by touching eyes, nose, or mouth after encountering an infected surface, like a towel or clothing.
Symptoms include fever, a red blotchy rash, red watery eyes, and a cough. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms:
For RMTs/MTs
- Stay home (self-isolate), contact your Public Health Unit and primary health care provider immediately;
- Postpone all appointments until:
- Symptoms resolve; and
- Your self-isolation period has passed.
- Post notices online and in recorded booking messages: clients diagnosed with measles and/or experiencing symptoms must delay booking appointments until symptoms resolve.
- If a client arrives with symptoms:
- Reschedule immediately. Do not provide treatment;
- Disinfect the treatment area; and
- Notify your Public Health Unit.
- Continue to follow the Standards of Practice Infection Prevention and Control, Safety and Risk Management.
