Have Your Say: Draft Health History Guidance
August 2024
Health History information is a key component of providing safe and effective Massage Therapy. Registered Massage Therapists/Massage Therapists (RMTs/MTs) collect personal health information before treating clients to ensure they can provide safe and effective treatment. RMTs/MTs must strike a careful balance to not collect information that is unnecessary to Massage Therapy care generally. RMTs/MTs must also be conscious of collecting information that could expose clients to discrimination or stigmatization.
CMTO has drafted new Health History Guidance to make sure RMTs/MTs have the tools and information needed to protect clients’ privacy and dignity while providing safe and effective treatment during Massage Therapy. The draft guidance outlines:
- Information that may be collected from all clients;
- Information that may be asked for under specific circumstances; and
- Information that should never be collected.
