EVENT DESCRIPTION This annual event has been a great success the past 3 years, with a typical attendance of between 150 and 200. Given the continuing resurgence of Information Management as a field of practice and the momentum gained from our many previous events, we are very excited about the 2009 PHIPA Summit, to be held in Toronto, Ontario.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS The Planning Committee has begun to develop the program for this event. In an effort to ensure that the program is current and relevant, the Planning Committee would like to invite individuals to submit proposals for presentations to be heard at the conference.

Individuals whose submissions are selected for the conference will be notified by September 14, 2009. Those selected will be required to provide session-specific information prior to the conference, including (1) a brief professional biography and (2) complete presentation materials for inclusion in the proceedings.

TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED The following is a list of potential topics that may be addressed at this year’s conference. If you are conversant with a topic that is not listed, but that could be related to the conference, we encourage you to submit your abstract for consideration:

  • Movement of each LHIN in regards to E H R
  • PHIP A disclosure, retention and difficult examples
  • Impact of PHIP A to technology
  • Lock Box – impact scenarios, clinician ‘s responsibilities, MHA
  • Patient record – utilization software that contains PHI, care giver actions, treatment delivery, leg assessment of delays in care, risk software
  • PIPEDA /PHIPA/MFIPPA: Fees, process, tracking tools for staff, records management
  • IT and Security PHI policies and procedures, best privacy practices, cross-border data transfers
  • Specifics to third party agreements with the sharing of e health info HIC (s)
  • Privacy education models
  • Privacy issue regarding genomics
  • Privacy related issues for community service providers in home care – i.e. breach
  • management issues, amount of client phi in community and effective ways to manage
  • PHIP A basics
  • Release of information for family child & services
  • Interviewing skills for breach of confidentiality, what questions to ask and template on final report
  • PHIP A vs other legislation like HPP A
  • Privacy and mental health – criminal code trumping PHIPA
  • Disclosure to police – circumstances, more on break notification HIC to HIC

SUBMISSION FORMAT: Please submit a 1-2-paragraph abstract for a 1-hour presentation including a title and 3-5 key bullet points.Based on feedback from past conferences, please follow the following guidelines: • Be specific about what you will present and how the audience will benefit • Talk about real-world experience and achievements rather than theory • If you are a vendor to this community do not ‘pitch’ specific products
