Government of Ontario Takes Action to Prevent Sexual Abuse of Clients

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care recently announced new legislation to uphold its zero tolerance policy on the sexual abuse of patients/clients by regulated health professionals. The announcement results from the recommendations of the Minister’s Task Force on the Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Patients and the Regulated Health Professions Act. You can read the announcement and recommendations here.

CMTO has a strong commitment to preventing and addressing the sexual abuse of clients by Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs). CMTO takes this responsibility seriously, and has adopted policies and measures that underpin a zero tolerance approach to sexual abuse.

CMTO will undertake a detailed review of the Task Force’s report and recommendations. We look forward to working with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care on the outcome of the Task Force’s report.
