The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. We have updated our website with new frequently asked questions (look for “Updated – January 28, 2021”), resources for mental health support during the pandemic, information on vaccinations and a link to the Workforce Matching Portal.
Under the current province-wide stay-at-home order, Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) may continue to operate in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2. RMTs should be providing in-person treatment only when the anticipated benefits of treatment outweigh the risks to the client and the RMT.
RMTs should continue to monitor the COVID-19 regional public health measures and restrictions in their area. RMTs can access up-to-date epidemiological information through the Ministry of Health’s website or Public Health Ontario’s COVID-19 Data Tool.
Update on the Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
At a minimum, RMTs are expected to wear surgical/procedure masks approved for medical use in all practice situations where physical distancing is not possible. Based on the Ministry of Health’s recommendations, RMTs should also consider using eye protection (goggles or a face shield). For further information on the proper use of PPE in healthcare, please see Public Heath Ontario’s Infection Prevention and Control Fundamentals resource.
Along with the appropriate use of PPE, it is important that RMTs remain vigilant in screening, cleaning and disinfecting, and adhering to Ministry of Health and CMTO guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
For additional information and resources, including the guidance and requirements, please visit our COVID-19 webpage. If you have further questions, please contact CMTO’s Practice Specialist at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 416-489-2626/1-800-465-1933 extension 4124.
We thank RMTs for all they are doing to keep Ontarians safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. CMTO is not expecting RMTs to practise if they do not feel it is appropriate or safe to do so at this time.
