In January 2020, a novel (new) coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was identified as the cause of an outbreak of pneumonia originating in Wuhan, China, and is now in Ontario.
CMTO is monitoring this situation and will share updates (via email and on cmto.com) from Ontario’s Ministry of Health (MOH).
For more information, please view the following resources:
- Novel Coronavirus (Public Health Ontario)
- Routine Practices and Additional Precautions in All Health Care Settings (Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee on Infection Prevention and Control [PIDAC-IPC], Public Health Ontario)
- Annex B: Best Practices for Prevention of Transmission of Acute Respiratory Infection (PIDAC-IPC, Public Health Ontario)
- Official Letter from the MOH re: Novel Coronavirus
CMTO would like to remind Registered Massage Therapists (“MTs” or “RMTs”) that infection prevention practices need to be followed at all times, in all practice settings. To view the Standards, please click here.
On January 22, 2020, the Government of Ontario added novel coronavirus as a designated disease that must be reported by some regulated health professions under Ontario’s public health legislation. While RMTs are not included in this list, Public Health Ontario’s Novel Coronavirus page has a customer service line for health care providers who require advice or support.
