Announcing Appointment of New Registrar & CEO

The College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vahe Kehyayan, PhD to the position of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, commencing on June 4, 2012.

He joins the College with over 35 years of experience in Ontario’s health care system – a span of expertise including senior management in the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care, health professions regulatory policy, compliance management, quality assurance, organizational transformation, advocacy, and stakeholder relations.

“With greater emphasis on inter-professional collaboration for quality and patient-centred care, we need to think of how the profession of Massage Therapy fits within this new environment. One of my focuses will be to better understand and appreciate our health care system and the important role health professions and their regulation plays in the delivery of quality and safe care to the Ontario public. In the long term, my vision for the profession is that it is regarded as an equal and valued partner in the delivery of collaborative and integrated health care services”, states Dr. Kehyayan.

The mandate of the College is to ensure the public interest is placed at the centre of all College activities. This means that the focus is maintained on consumer needs, including the right to the provision of high quality, safe and ethical health care and that Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are held accountable for the care they provide to the public of Ontario.

The College is one of more than 21 regulatory Colleges which oversee their respective health professions in Ontario. It is a not-for-profit organization established by the provincial government to regulate the conduct of RMTs in the province of Ontario under the provisions of the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA).

Under his leadership, the College aims to strengthen current partnerships, while creating new ones, through the initiation of innovative projects; of recognizing that as staff, Council members and RMTs, we share the same goals for our profession – and it is this palpable energy which renews us as our organization moves forward.
