Support the Province’s Vaccination Efforts
December 23, 2021
On December 22, 2021, the Ontario Government announced that it will temporarily allow any person to help administer COVID-19 vaccinations, with appropriate training and supervision. Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs/MTs) can sign up to support the province’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts.
RMTs who are willing and able are encouraged to volunteer and contribute to this important initiative. For more information and to sign up, visit the Ontario Matching Portal. If you sign up, you will be contacted directly by the Ontario Government as CMTO is not involved in the province’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign. If you have any questions, please contact the Ontario Together Contact Centre at 1-888-777-0554.
COVID-19 Reminders
Booster Doses
RMTs are currently eligible for their third dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, and CMTO strongly encourages COVID-19 vaccination for RMTs. Getting vaccinated is an extension of your ethical obligation to serve clients’ best interests and protect them from harm.
COVID-19 Precautions Continue
With the spread of the Omicron variant, CMTO has received questions about whether additional precautions or guidance is available. RMTs are reminded that at this time and for most practice settings outside of hospitals, long-term care and retirement homes (which are required to take additional precautions), CMTO’s COVID-19 Practice Guidance remains in effect. This means RMTs must:
- Wear at a minimum a surgical/procedure mask (cloth masks are not permitted). RMTs may choose to wear additional personal protective equipment, such as eye protection, and RMTs should instruct clients to wear appropriate masks.
- conduct risk assessments and active screening before every treatment, and only provide treatment when the anticipated benefits outweigh the risks to the client and RMT.
CMTO would like to extend its sincere appreciation to all RMTs for their dedication and commitment to public protection during another challenging year.
