Policy: Requests for Deferrals, Extensions, or Waivers: STRiVE – the Quality Assurance Program
Background
The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) requires all health profession regulators in Ontario to have a Quality Assurance (QA) program. Section 80 and 80.1 of the RHPA states that at a minimum the QA program include continuing education or professional development, self, peer and practice assessments, and a mechanism to monitor registrants’ participation in, and compliance with, the program.
The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) acknowledges that there may be extenuating circumstances that prevent a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) from participating in the Quality Assurance Program. These circumstances could include, but are not limited to:
- a significant health issue;
- the death or significant illness of a partner or close relative;
- being in a country that is blocking access to CMTO’s website.
Policy
RMTs who need a deferral, extension, or waiver should contact STRiVE – the Quality Assurance Program within 30 days of receiving a notification. In situations where an RMT is engaged in the assessment process and encounters an unanticipated extenuating circumstance, the RMT should contact STRiVE – the Quality Assurance Program immediately.
Procedures
- The RMT emails a request form to STRiVE – the Quality Assurance Program, outlining the reason for their request for deferral, extension, or waiver.
- Staff review the request to determine next steps. CMTO may request additional documentation to verify the reason(s) for the request.
- Staff will contact the RMT to advise whether the request has been granted or declined.
