COVID-19 Update: RMTs (as Regulated Health Professionals) are Currently Practising in Ontario
November 20, 2020
Today, the Ontario Government announced a series of new restrictions in regions of Ontario, including moving Toronto and Peel regions to “Lockdown status.” Please find the current status of Ontario regions here. Although the current restrictions do not directly impact the ability of Massage Therapists (MTs/RMTs) to provide healthcare services, the temporary closure of establishments such as spas and gyms in Toronto and Peel will impact some RMTs and clients.
CMTO continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates on any new provincial measures and directives impacting RMTs as they become available. We thank RMTs for all they are doing to keep Ontarians safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
RMTs who are practising are expected to continue to follow directions provided by:
- College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO),
- Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health,
- Ministry of Health (MOH)’s guidance for the health sector,
- MOH’s COVID-19 Operational Requirements: Health Sector Restart, and,
- Public Services Health & Safety Association’s sector-specific workplace safety guidelines.
At this time, RMTs should continue to monitor the status of their region and the prevalence of COVID-19 in their particular region through the Ministry of Health’s website or Public Health Ontario’s COVID-19 Data Tool. RMTs should only be providing in-person treatment when the anticipated benefits of treatment outweigh the risks to the client and the RMT.
