COVID-19: New Government Announcements

May 21, 2021

This week, the College is updating Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs/MTs) on recent announcements from the Ontario Government.

Directive 2 Revoked

To allow more procedures and surgeries to gradually resume in hospitals, the Chief Medical Officer of Health revoked Directive 2.

While RMTs are no longer subject to the requirements of Directive 2, CMTO would like to remind RMTs to continue following the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Operational Requirements for Health Sector Restart and CMTO’s COVID-19 Practice Guidance for Massage Therapists. RMTs should still conduct risk assessments before every treatment and practice in line with CMTO’s Code of Ethics.

New Re-opening Plan

The Ontario Government released a three-step plan to slowly begin a sector-by-sector re-opening across the province. RMTs are reminded to follow the guidance noted above when practising at any step in the plan.

Second Vaccine Dose

CMTO understands that RMTs may have questions about when their second vaccine dose will be available. We continue to monitor developments with the vaccine rollout, and we encourage RMTs to also check with their local public health units. View CMTO’s vaccine FAQs.
