Massage Therapy Education in Ontario

In Ontario, diploma programs in Massage Therapy are offered at colleges of applied arts and technology, and private career colleges registered with and approved by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities. The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) does not grant approval to educational institutions or Massage Therapy education programs.
The following educational programs are recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities. You will meet CMTO’s educational requirement if you successfully complete one of the following educational programs:

Next steps in the registration process
Once you have graduated from a recognized Massage Therapy program, you will be required to take Certification Examinations administered by Prometric on behalf of CMTO. Your education must be no more than three years old on the date you are scheduled to take an examination. If your education is more than three years old, you must successfully complete a CMTO Refresher Course no more than 15 months before the date you are scheduled to take an examination.
Similarly, if your education is more than three years old at the time you apply for registration, you must successfully complete a CMTO refresher course no more than 15 months before the date of your application.

Impact of COVID-19
In recognition of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the education validity timeframe, CMTO will grant a one-time extension equivalent to the time lost due to the certification examinations not being administered in 2020.
