We were thrilled to welcome over 120 guests to our Open Houses that took place in-person this fall across different regions of Ontario (Districts 1, 2, 5, 6), as well as virtually in District 7. The events served as an opportunity to hear from RMTs about their experiences in Massage Therapy care, and for CMTO to present an overview of regulatory changes impacting the profession.

CMTO also captured a livestream of the District 5 event on its YouTube channel.

Based on the survey responses we received, a majority of attendees reported that they were pleased with CMTO’s Open House events. 95% of participants “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that the Open House presentation was concise and informative. The Open Houses featured discussions regarding what health history information is needed for RMTs to provide safe and effective care to clients. You can watch the discussion that occurred at the District 5 Open House on the livestream, starting at the 33-minute mark. In the coming year, survey participants suggested that CMTO’s Open Houses should focus on three key topics:

• New Regulatory Changes Impacting the Massage Therapy profession;
• CMTO’s Strategic Plan; and
• Standards of Practice.

Following the Open House events, on November 10^th, CMTO hosted its “Prevention of Sexual Abuse Symposium”, our first event focusing on sexual abuse prevention. The symposium brought together a group of health system partners (RMTAO, educators, employers, legal counsel, regulators) for a facilitated discussion around the prevention of sexual abuse, and to develop a list of action items that can help guide collaborative efforts.
