New By-Law Changes in Effect
Summer-Fall 2021
In early 2021, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) established a Public Committee Member Strategy. The goal of the Strategy was to find a way to lessen the burden on Public Members of CMTO’s Council who were appointed by the Lieutenant Governor to serve on CMTO’s Committees (or “LGIC Members”).
As part of the Strategy, the College formed an Ad Hoc Committee on Governance (AHCG) that proposed revisions to CMTO’s existing by-laws to enable College-led appointment of non-Council Public Members to its Committees, and to make minor governance and housekeeping changes. During the Sept 27-28, 2021 meeting, CMTO’s Council approved all the proposed by-law changes. A summary of the approved changes and the rationale behind them is available in Attachment A: Proposed By-law Amendments – Overview (Agenda Item 7.3) of the Sept 27/28, 2021 Council Meeting Package. The changes are in immediate effect.
This new approach to LGIC Member appointments will help alleviate some of the burden on existing LGIC Members associated with their Committee duties and responsibilities, and help streamline existing governance processes.
