Message from the Registrar & CEO: Annual Report Highlights
August 2023
On behalf of CMTO, I’m excited to announce the release of our 2022 Annual Report.
2022 has been a year of evolution and transformation for CMTO. Throughout the year, we focused on building on our previous work and reflected on the lessons learned to ensure we continue serving the people of Ontario as a responsive and effective regulator.
As a notable achievement of the past year, CMTO published a new Strategic Plan for 2023-2025. We developed new goals and priorities with input from RMTs, educators, clients, as well as government and regulatory agencies. Through a combination of online surveys, interviews, and focus groups, we elicited feedback from 2,455 participants and leveraged their unique perspectives on Massage Therapy regulation to inform our Strategic Plan.
We are grateful to everyone who took the time to share their views and experiences that helped shape our new plan. I’d also like to sincerely thank our health system partners for providing invaluable feedback, and CMTO’s Council for their dedication in developing this plan.
After an in-depth environmental scan, we put forward an ambitious plan that’s focused on the following four Strategic Goals:
- Sexual Abuse Prevention;
- Engagement and Partnerships;
- Regulatory Excellence; and
- Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI).
As part of our primary goal to prevent sexual abuse, we worked on finalizing our new online jurisprudence program. We also began a new collaborative pilot with the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (OPSDT). The pilot aims to streamline CMTO’s hearings and decision-making processes by appointing adjudicators as non-Council Public Members to the Discipline Committee. We expect the project will help increase process efficiencies and the separation between CMTO’s Council and Discipline Committee. In the fall of 2023, CMTO will host a “Prevention of Sexual Abuse Symposium” which will bring together health system partners to facilitate discussion around the prevention of sexual abuse and develop an action plan to guide collaborative efforts.
I’m excited to share our new and improved annual report format. In 2022, our team refreshed the look of the report and packaged it in a new format that offers a more interactive and user-friendly experience. I encourage you to read the full report and share your thoughts, comments and feedback with our Communications department at communications@cmto.com.
I look forward to continuing to serve the public interest by working with Council and staff to deliver on CMTO’s new and exciting strategic vision.
Maureen Boon, Registrar & CEO
