Message from the President: Ending the Year with the Appointment of a new Registrar and CEO
Fall-Winter 2021
After an extensive national search process, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO)’s Council is excited to announce that Maureen Boon has accepted the position of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Maureen has had a 25 plus year career in the regulatory environment, having held senior positions at the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, College of Optometrists of Ontario, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Maureen brings a strong focus on accountability and the public interest within the health care system. She has extensive experience in organizational leadership, policy, board management, strategic planning/reporting, crisis management and decision-making, with a particular talent for building consensus among stakeholders to develop and complete complex public interest projects. Maureen has a Master of Health Science, Health Administration from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science, Life Sciences from Queen’s University.
On behalf of Council, I want to welcome and congratulate Maureen on her appointment as Registrar and CEO. We are looking forward to working with her and to her strong leadership on the complex issues facing the regulation of massage therapy in Ontario.
CMTO’s Council and staff also extended our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to our outgoing Registrar and CEO, Corinne Flitton. Under Corinne’s leadership over the last 10 years, CMTO has transformed in all aspects of our policies, operations, and systems. Corinne created and delivered a bold vision of CMTO as a modern regulator – one that will continue to evolve and strengthen under the next generation of leadership. We will miss her humour, transparency, and her professional and personal integrity. We wish her all the very best as she embarks on this next chapter of her life.
Finally, I want to thank RMTs and our health system partners for all they have done to keep Ontarians safe and healthy in 2021. I would also like to extend sincere thanks to my Council colleagues and CMTO’s staff for their hard work and continued dedication to the College’s mandate. It has been another challenging year, but we have continued to be resilient and adaptive. I am wishing you a restorative, healthy and peaceful 2022.
Season’s greetings and yours in health,
Kim Westfall-Connor, RMT, LLM
