2021 Renewal – Special Split Payment
Summer 2020
The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) recognizes the COVID-19 pandemic has been an unprecedented and challenging time for healthcare professionals and the healthcare system. To provide some relief to Massage Therapists (RMTs/MTs), CMTO’s Council has determined that there will be no fee increase for 2021, and the fee for a General Certificate (GC) will be split into two payments over the course of four months.
Council carefully considered many options prior to making their decision, including suggestions from RMTs that the 2021 fee be reduced or that a credit be applied. Unfortunately, CMTO’s current operations and financial situation will not allow for a rebate and/or discount on renewal fees.
No fee increases for 2021 means that the fee for a GC remains $785.00 and the fee for an Inactive (IN) Certificate remains $200.00. Deadlines for submission of the renewal form and payment are as follows:
General Certificate Renewal
- On or before November 1, 2020, registrants with a GC must submit a completed renewal form and pay the first installment of $392.50; and
- On or before March 1, 2021, registrants with a GC must pay the second installment of $392.50.
Inactive Certificate Renewal
- Registrants with an IN must submit a completed renewal form and their full renewal fees by November 1, 2020.
Late fees will not be charged for 2021 renewal, however registrants who do not submit their payment by the deadline(s) will receive notice that non-payment of fees may result in the suspension of their registration.
And finally, in recognition of the time during which RMTs were unable to work due to COVID-19 restrictions, the three-year timeframe for GC-holders to provide a minimum of 500 hours direct client care within the scope of practice of Massage Therapy in a regulated jurisdiction in Canada is being extended to March 29, 2021. The direct client care declaration on the GC renewal form will be updated to show the extension of the three-year timeframe.
Renewal will open on Oct. 1, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact registrationservices@cmto.com.
