April 2024
Are you a new graduate looking to become a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) in Ontario? If so, there are a number of steps you need to take before becoming an RMT in Ontario. Visit CMTO’s website to find out how to begin your application process.
In 2024, we also introduced an additional requirement for applicants to CMTO. As of January 1st, all new applicants are required to complete CMTO’s online Jurisprudence Program.
Watch CMTO’s video to learn more about the new program.
The online Jurisprudence Program provides an overview of the legislation and Standards of Practice which govern Massage Therapy in Ontario. The program has three parts that help applicants enhance their understanding of rules and expectations around the following topics:
- Prevention of Sexual Abuse and the Standards of Practice;
- Legislation and Regulation; and
- Professionalism and the Code of Ethics.
Each part of the program has a corresponding test which requires a passing score of 70%. The program takes approximately four hours to complete and is available at no charge.
After completing the program, new applicants will be well-equipped with key knowledge to help them uphold professional boundaries in their practice, and provide safe and ethical Massage Therapy care to their future clients.
All applicants are required to participate in the Jurisprudence Program after they have passed both the MCQ and OSCE exams. Once an applicant successfully completes the Jurisprudence Program, they will be able to submit their Application for Initial Registration. Successful completion of the Jurisprudence Program is valid for six months.
