Message from the President: CMTO Releases the 2017 Annual Report
By Lisa Tucker, RMT, President
On behalf of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO)’s Council, I’m pleased to announce the recent release of the 2017 Annual Report.
During 2017, it was a true privilege for our Council to lead the College through a year of exciting change and transformation.
The Protecting Patients Act introduced in 2017 by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, served as one of the main drivers affecting the work of CMTO. This new legislation focusses on client safety and the eradication of sexual abuse across all health professions in Ontario.
As CMTO’s Council, one of our key responsibilities was to develop an agile strategic path for the College to follow in response to the new Act.
In parallel to our work on the new Act, we also provided guidance on the CMTO’s multi-year Strategic Plan (2016-18) to ensure the College continued developing new policies, program updates and other regulatory refinements that support three key strategic goals:
• Quality; and
• Regulatory Modernization.
I am proud to witness the remarkable growth and progress that we achieved over the past year. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our 2017 Council, CMTO’s Committees, Staff, Peer Assessors, Investigators and Inspectors, Subject Matter Experts, and the entire Examination Team for their hard work and unwavering dedication to protecting the public interest.
