The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (“CMTO”) confirms that it is investigating one of its members, Mr. Dumitru Tornea, who was arrested and charged with sexual assault in December 2016.
Mr. Tornea’s criminal trial is scheduled to proceed on December 11 and 12, 2017 at Old City Hall (60 Queen Street West).
Mr. Tornea is currently unable to practise Massage Therapy, or hold himself out as a Registered Massage Therapist, as an interim suspension order has been imposed that prohibits Mr. Tornea from practising.
On October 12, 2017, CMTO issued the following order: “Under the authority of section 25.4(1) of the Health Professions Procedural Code, being Schedule 2 to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, S.O. 1991, c.18, it is the decision of the panel of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (“ICRC”) of the College to impose an interim order directing the Registrar of the College to suspend Mr. Dumitru Tornea’s Certificate of Registration, which order continues in force until it is varied by the ICRC or until the matter is withdrawn, resolved by way of an alternative dispute resolution process or otherwise finally disposed of by a panel of the ICRC, the Discipline Committee or the Fitness to Practise Committee.”
Please see Mr. Tornea’s details on CMTO’s public register for further information.
