Important:

Please ensure that you have searched through the FAQs and the Resource List.
Members with questions which are answered in the FAQs will be directed to review the FAQ’s.
If your question is not answered by the FAQ’s, please email the College at cmto@cmto.com with "Practice Advice Question" in the Subject, or contact a staff member of the College (refer to "Contacts" on this website).

Role of the Practice Specialist

The Practice Specialist typically assists members in finding the relevant legislative or policy oriented information needed to support them in providing the best possible practice for their clients. For instance, the Practice Specialist cannot provide members with legal or financial advice. Instead, the Practice Specialist provides coaching to members as they work through the ethical decision-making process to develop their own course of action in response to their particular practice dilemma. This process, which is presented at the College’s Professionalism Workshops, provides members with a framework within which to explore their issue, reflect on possible solutions and to test these solutions before taking action. This is done using the College’s Regulations, policies, Standards and bulletins as guidelines for what the minimum expectations are of massage therapists. These guidelines are the expression of the public’s expectations for massage therapy care, as well as the generally accepted practices understood and utilized by the profession.

Resource List

Questions not covered by the FAQ’s may be addressed by other information resources. Members with questions that fall outside the College’s jurisdiction may refer to the Resource List, at the end of the FAQs, for a list of commonly used resources. This comprehensive list is based on questions the College has received in the past.

  • For example, members with questions involving GST collection/payments are referred to the Canada Revenue Agency website www.cra-arc.gc.ca.
  • Members may also be referred to the Ontario Massage Therapist Association (OMTA) website www.omta.com since it provides many business , educational and advocacy related resources for Massage Therapists.
